My Daily Journal: The First Six Weeks

Follow along in my daily journal- see what I chose for my meals each day, what I ate for my Lean and Green, how I handled a trip to the beach (Days 8 & 9), Thanksgiving (Day 20), my daughter’s birthday party (Day 30),  my cheats and temptations, how I had te re-start the program after a particularly challenging weekend- and what the impact was (Day 31 & 32).  Follow along as my weight falls off and I drop inches, then I plateau, and there’s days where I gain weight.  But in the end, I reach my goal!


DAY 1  (5&1 Meal Plan)

First off…. at the time I ordered my kit, my weight was creeping up from 133 to 135.  My dreaded winter gain was already trying to sneak up on me.  This morning, my weight was is 133.4.  I have not yet taken any measurements- I will do that tonight.

DAY 2 (5&1 Meal Plan)

Weight this morning: 133.0
Loss: 0.4 pounds

Today was “Fall Back” the clocks….I woke up at the new 5am and took a couple Ibuprofen as a precautionary measure.   Went back to sleep and got up at 7:30.

Meal #1 @ 8:15am Strawberry Shake.  I tried to make a pancake for breakfast- to eat as a waffle, but it destroyed itself in my waffle iron and made a heckuva mess- FAIL. Never trying that again. So that was $1.79 down the drain.  Instead, Meal #1 was a Strawberry Shake. I mixed it in (click here to read more….)


DAY 3 (5&1 Meal Plan)

Weight this morning: 132
Loss: 1.4 pounds

No headache….still!  I’m also not irritible or grumpy or overly tired or unmotivated, all of which I was expecting to feel yesterday and/or this morning.  Guess all that water and Ibuprofen is really working!

Meal #1 @ 6:15am Hot Chocolate. Reallllllly good, too!  First I whipped it in my Magic Bullet, then heated it for one minute.  Flavor = 10.  Best item so far!  I did not drink any water though.  Just one cup of coffee with a few tablespoons of (click here to read more….)

Loss: 2.6 pounds

Why does this seem so easy?  Granted, making sure I’m eating every 2-3 hours is a challenge, but it’s not a BAD challenge!  But I never got that “headache” and I feel good!  I’m not tired or run down or anything.  Maybe I wasn’t eating “that bad” to begin with and so it’s been easy for my body to adjust?  Maybe drinking lots and lots of water is flushing everything out faster?  I don’t know…all I know is this program is working and I feel great!

MEAL #1 @ 6:30 am Chocolate Chip Pancake.  I have 3 boxes of pancakes- one a day would mean 21 days worth- so I’ll plan to eat one every day for breakfast.  2 boxes are Chocolate Chip, 1 is plain.  I always make them as muffins (mix in a pyrex measuring glass and microwave for (click here to read more….)

Loss: 3.4 pounds

WHOA things have slowed down.  Yikes.  I knew it would happen.  People with a lot of weight to lose will lose 5-10 pounds their first week, then it slows to 2-5 pounds per week after that.  Since I only have about 10 pounds to lose, I figured I’d lose maybe 2-3 pounds the first week, and I was hoping to lose 1-2 pounds a week after that.  I was really excited when I lost 3 pounds in the first 5 days.  But now I’ve hit the slow down phase.  I lost 0.2 pounds yesterday, and I’m expecting it to slow down even more.  I was really hoping for a quicker pace.  It’s only day 6 though, so I might be too hasty in my judgement.

Jim and I talked about the program more this morning and how long I’ll do it and how I’ll phase out of it.  My original plan was to follow the 5 & 1 for three solid weeks, then take 2-3 weeks to phase out of Medifast completely.  Now I’m thinking I’ll purchase keep going on the plan until I get below 125 for several days, then phase out slowly with the hopes that I’ll be able to maintain 125.  Since I’ve lost 3 pounds, and will likely only lose 1 pound a week moving forward- that puts me following this plan for 5 more weeks.  Thanksgiving is going to be a challenge and possibly set me back a few days.  I’m pretty sure that one day of over-eating won’t pack on the pounds, but it will alter the way my body is burning fat.

I still am happy with this plan- it is easy to follow and a lot of the food choices taste really good!  I could easily eat one of those bars every day as a meal replacement.  The Hot Cocoa is also good- something I could also use as a meal replacement- maybe as a breakfast since it is packed with fiber, protein and vitamins.  Hmmm…..

Loss: 3.8 pounds

I was surprised to see that I dropped another near-half pound!  Jim says he can see a difference in how my clothing fits.  I tried on my super tight jeans (from the before picture) that I could barely zip or pull over my hips- and they went on much smoother and I didn’t have to suck everything in to get them to zip.  They are still tight though.  Tighter than I feel comfortable wearing.  Another 5 pounds and they’ll be perfect!!

I’m also using a tighter notch on my belt!  Yippee!!

This weekend might be interesting, though.  We are headed to the beach.  We eat all our meals at the condo (no dining out) so that’s not the problem, but sticking to eating every couple hours, and having to feed the family breakfast, lunch and dinner while I sit by and stare…might be hard!  I’ve packed my Magic Bullet and a variety of Medifast packets to get me through.  Packing the Lean and Green will be (read more….)

Well, we’re at the beach and I didn’t pack my scale, so I couldn’t tell you how much I weigh this morning.  Stay tuned and check in Day 10 for that!

MEAL #1 @ 8:00 Chocolate Chip Pancake I actually woke up at 6:30 or so, but didn’t roll out of bed until after 7:00, showered, then didn’t eat my first meal until 8:00am.  I had to feed the family, so I decided I’d better just get busy with that and make them pancakes so I could eat my pancake with them!  The alternative would have been me drinking a shake or something just after 7:00 and then making the whole family wait until 9:00-9:30 for breakfast.  I knew meal planning was going to be (read more…..)

Still no access to a scale…wait ’til tomorrow! I’m curious too!

MEAL #1 @ 7:15 Dutch Chocolate Shake since everyone was still sleeping, I figured I’d drink a shake and buy myself a couple hours before I need to make breakfast for everyone.

MEAL #2 @ 9:30 Chocolate Chip Pancake this time I made it as 2 pancakes instead of as a muffin.  Tastes the same, but I think I prefer the meatier muffin over the uber-flat pancake!  Wonder if I added baking powder if the pancake would be a little fluffier? (read more…)


DAY 10 (5&1 Meal Plan)

Total Loss: 2.8 pounds

OUCH!  On Friday before we left town I was 129.6, no scale over the weekend and if I were keeping pace from the last several days I would have weighed in at 128.6, but no, I gained a pound over the weekend.  I guess all those little ‘cheats’ had an effect!   I know they say you shouldn’t weigh yourself every day, but I always have, my entire life and my weight usually doesn’t fluctuate so when it does, it hurts!  No more sampling Tillamook Cheese, or taking bites of pepperoni or jerky, or drinking a coffee from Starbucks even if it IS sugar-free.  Yikes.  Thankfully, I only did that one day, but still.  Makes me wonder how Thanksgiving is going to go over! Loss to date: 3.8 pounds

I’m not liking how slow this is going now, even though I expected it… and it’s how it should be.   Granted I lost a whole pound since yesterday’s weigh in, but that was after gaining a pound over the weekend, so I’m essentially back where I was last Friday.  I can’t help but wonder if this is as low as my body will go, or if I’m going to be plateauing at my 2nd or 3rd week!  Time will tell.  I’m down almost 4 pounds.  I’m hovering around 130, which is GREAT in the grand scheme of things.  I’ve lost an average of one inch from each problem area, but have an overall goal of (read more…)

Loss: 4.8 pounds

I have that “This is too easy!” feeling again!  I’ve lost nearly 2 pounds since I complained on Monday.  Ha!  I really wasn’t hungry yesterday except “habit hunger”.  I ate my Lean & Green mid-day, which I prefer, and drank a shake at 7:30 while everyone else was eating dinner (yes they ate that late!).  I drank a lot of water (although I didn’t log it) and I lost 0.8 pounds in the past 24 hours.

And I feel great!!

Today will be interesting in that I’m leaving at 9:00pm to go to the Breaking Dawn Part 1 movie premiere, which doesn’t start until midnight, which means I’ll be awake 5 hours longer than usual. Not only will it be hard for me to stay awake….but it will be a challenge with my diet, too! (read more…)

It’s not as motivating to make a blog entry when my weight goes UP and not down!  I’m chalking it up to all the sodium I had this weekend (Carl’s Jr Low Carb burger on Saturday, and Sunday I made my own ground beef burgers along with roasted broccoli and roasted asparagus (all with salt!)), and the minimal amount of water I drank.  Otherwise, there was no “sneaking”…even though there was a plate of fudge (read more….)

What a milestone!

I was getting worried since my weight was more or less staying the same, hovering around 127.  I was very surprised when I got on the scale this morning to see a weight below 127!

It seems there’s a pattern with my weight loss….I drop a couple pounds back to back, then stay the same for several days, then drop a couple more pounds, then level off again.  That’s fine with me as long as there’s progress week to week (read more…)

No change.  That’s a good thing after yesterday!!  I was looking at my weight chart and it appears I lost 3.8 pounds that first week, 2.8 pounds the second week, and just .4 pound last week.  :(   But loss is loss, and maintaining is maintaining… long as we aren’t reversing all the hard work it’s all good!!

I have to say my arms and legs don’t even look like mine anymore.  They are so lean looking- I can actually see muscle and definition!  Makes me excited to start working out again!

It’s Black Friday- the kids and I are heading out to do our Fred Meyer stocking up on socks and looking at games.  Yep, I’m taking all 3 kids with me.  Jim is still at work (10pm to 10am!).  Sad that I won’t be able to have the donut holes and juice.  I love that (read more…)

Yay!  I finally got over the hump and dropped .4 pounds.  Whew, I was getting nervous!

I put on my (formerly) super tight size 4 jeans from my “before” picture this morning and they fit perfect!  Comfortable, even a tad roomy!  I can’t wait to wear them!

Today will mark the official end of my 4th solid week on the program.  I’m down 9.0 pounds!  Yippee!!

Boy am I running low on food!  My order says it will be delivered on Tuesday, 5 days from now!  I only have 30 packets left (well, and a full box of Strawberry Shake that I was hoping to trade for something else).  That’s technically 6 days worth of food….which is enough….but means  my options are slim.  I have one of each item left (ie 1 banana pudding, 1 chocolate pudding, 1 chocolate shake, 1 banana shake, 1 smores bar, etc.)  When it’s gone, it’s gone- the last couple days until my food arrives will be interesting since (read more…)

Yippee!!  Can you believe it?  10 pounds in 33 days.  I can’t wait until Friday to post my measurements and Five Week Update!

I feel amazing, so ‘thin’ and back to my old self.   Now I just need to keep it that way!

My new food shipment was delivered yesterday.  Good thing because today I’ll be eating my last pudding and my last shake.  I’d be out of pancakes, except Kelli traded me.  I have only two bars left, too. (read more….)

Aw man.  My weight this morning is exactly where it was LAST Friday… making it a ZERO loss this week.  But my inches lost is still going up so I can’t complain!  After all, my goal weight is 123-125 so I’m where I ultimately want to be…I was just hoping to drop more weight this week so I can transition off the diet.

Not yet, I guess.

Oh, and my awful headache- not sure if it’s Medifast related (since I had to reset myself) or cold related.  All the daycare kiddos have horrific head colds and I can feel that I’m on the verge of getting it- been battling it all week.  Maybe the headache was related to that.  Nonetheless, I’ve been popping Advil all day yesterday and again today.

I just can’t seem to get away from the 124.4 range!!  I’ve been here since day 27….which was 11 days ago!  Every now and then I’ll dip below 124, but only for one day.  Grrrrr…..

Jim says not to worry or complain though, because my inches are still going down.  I’m feeling very bloated and heavy this morning though (yesterday too), but my thighs are still losing so the diet is still working.

This is my last week to stay on the 5 & 1.  I’m going to start transitioning…making sure I follow their plan EXACTLY.  I do not want to gain any flab back.  I WILL NOT have a muffin top or rear end the size it was when I started this plan… EVER AGAIN! (read more….)

YAY!  I’m at the 10 pounds mark again!  Even more exciting is that I took measurements this morning and my hips measured BELOW 36″ for the first time in forever!  Well, for the first time since probably high school?  I have measurements all the way back to 1994 and it never dips below 36!  Hmmm…. What a shocker!  Especially shocking is that I’ve been averaging about 1150 calories each day this week (as opposed to the 850 I’m supposed to be eating) and I’m STILL losing weight.  Well, I mean I’ve started losing weight again after my stall for the past couple weeks.  Hmmmm….(read more….)
